This Privacy Policy explains how LUMO Deutsch ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information across the following products:
- 1. LUMO - Learn German Words, our mobile application for iOS and Android (the "Words App")
- 2. LUMO - Der Die Das, our mobile application for iOS and Android (the "Der Die Das App")
- 3. The LUMO Deutsch website newsletter at lumodeutsch.com (the "Newsletter")
These products are operated independently — each has its own account system and its own data storage, and using one does not create or link an account on another. Each is described separately below.
1. LUMO - Learn German Words (Mobile App)
1.1 Information We Collect
Account Information: If you choose to use the App without creating an account ("Continue without account"), we create an anonymous account for you. If you choose to register or sign in using Apple, Google, or Email/Password, we receive the necessary authentication details (such as your name, email address, or unique authentication identifier provided by the sign-in provider) to maintain your account and sync your progress across devices.
Usage Data: We collect information about your learning progress, including completed modules, streak data, saved vocabulary words, and review history, in order to provide the App's core features.
Device Information: We may collect basic device information such as device model, OS version, and language settings to optimize app performance.
1.2 How We Use App Information
We use the information collected through the App solely to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App's learning experience
- Sync your learning progress across your devices
- Manage your subscription status
- Respond to your support inquiries
1.3 App Data Storage and Security
Your App data is stored securely using Firebase (Google Cloud infrastructure). The iOS and Android versions of the Words App share the same Firebase project, so your account and progress sync across both platforms. We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
1.4 App Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your App data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may use third-party service providers (such as Apple and Google for authentication, and Apple App Store / Google Play Billing (via RevenueCat) for payment processing) to operate essential app functions.
1.5 App Data Rights and Deletion
You have the right to request access to or deletion of your App data. You can delete your account and associated data directly within the App settings, submit a request via our web form at lumodeutsch.com/delete-account, or contact us at Loading email... to request data removal.
2. LUMO - Der Die Das (Mobile App)
2.1 Information We Collect
Account Information: Account handling differs by platform. On iOS, an anonymous account is created for you on first launch, and you may optionally sign in with Apple to keep your progress across devices. On Android, an account is required: you sign in with Google or Apple, and we receive the authentication details those providers supply (such as your name, email address, and a unique authentication identifier). You may also set a display name of your choice within the App.
Usage Data: We collect information about your practice progress, including article (der/die/das) statistics, spaced-repetition review state, and streak data, in order to provide the App's core features.
Analytics and Crash Reports: We collect usage events (such as which screens you open and whether a practice session was completed) and crash diagnostics, in order to understand how the App is used and to fix defects.
Notification Tokens: If you enable practice reminders, we store a notification token for your device so that reminders can be delivered to it.
Device Information: We may collect basic device information such as device model, OS version, language settings, and time zone to optimize app performance.
2.2 How We Use App Information
We use the information collected through the App solely to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App's practice experience
- Sync your practice progress across your devices (if signed in)
- Send practice reminders, if you have enabled them
- Diagnose crashes and understand how the App is used
- Respond to your support inquiries
The Der Die Das App does not currently offer paid subscriptions, so no payment or billing information is collected through it. The App contains no advertising and does not use an advertising identifier.
2.3 App Data Storage and Security
Your App data is stored securely using Firebase (Google Cloud infrastructure). The Der Die Das App uses its own, separate Firebase project — it does not share data with the Words App or any other LUMO Deutsch product. The iOS and Android versions of the Der Die Das App share that same project, so your account and progress sync across both platforms. 2.4 App Data Sharing and Third Parties

3. LUMO Deutsch Website Newsletter
3.1 Information We Collect
If you subscribe to our email newsletter at lumodeutsch.com, we collect the email address you provide. This is entirely separate from and unrelated to any App account described above. Subscribing to the Newsletter does not create or link to an App account, and using either App does not enroll you in the Newsletter.
3.2 How We Use Your Newsletter Email
We use your email address solely to send you periodic emails containing German vocabulary content and related updates from LUMO Deutsch. We do not use this email address for any other purpose, and we do not sell, rent, or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
3.3 Newsletter Infrastructure and Third Parties
To operate the Newsletter, we use the following third-party service providers: Supabase (database hosting, hosted in Ireland, EU) stores your email address; Resend (email delivery, hosted in Ireland, EU) sends the emails to you. We also use n8n, an automation tool, to process and route your email address between these services; n8n does not persistently store your email address, it only processes it in transit while sending each email. These providers process your email solely on our behalf to operate the Newsletter.
3.4 Double Opt-In
When you subscribe, we send a confirmation email to verify that you own the email address provided. Your email is only added to our active mailing list after you confirm via this email.
3.5 Unsubscribing
Every Newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking this link, which will immediately stop future emails. After unsubscribing, your email address is retained in our records in an "unsubscribed" state, to prevent accidental re-subscription and for legal compliance purposes. If you would like your email address permanently deleted from our records rather than marked as unsubscribed, contact us at Loading email....
4. Children's Privacy
None of our Apps nor the Newsletter is intentionally directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information, including email addresses, from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at Loading email... so we can remove it.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including as we add new LUMO Deutsch products. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page, with an updated "Last updated" date.
